I wrote 1,025 words about #Bluesky but of course only one quote actually made it to the article. Oh well

"Twitter and Facebook Want to Shift Power to Users. Or Do They?"

鼻毛スライサー

@Gargron would you share the full 1,025 words here or somewhere else?

@Gargron
> Mr. Dorsey said the invention of Bitcoin had made it possible to revive those early ideals.
Suppose things might have influenced each other, but don't really see this connection this way?

Thousands of students in Germany queue for email access

"Some 38,000 students in Germany have been asked to queue in person for a new email password, after their university was hit by a cyber-attack"

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-50838673

The state of German IT...

Shahaan 🇨🇦

@Gargron Well, since they clearly can’t *email* new passwords to them... 😂

@Gargron
I wonder if a US University would handle a situation like this with such sensible and complete resolution. Just sayin'

radiocron

@Gargron the old way was to send them campus mail - in the US anyway

By the way if you're gonna talk about the new Star Wars don't forget to click on the "CW" button and say so. No spoiling people.

Julien Deswaef

@Gargron Can you temporarly rename "CW" into "SW"? Thank you. #AskingForAFriend

Carlos Solís

@Gargron I never thought one could use the CW tag as a spoiler tag, thanks for that one

I have an odd relationship to Star Wars because I like it and I'm somewhat invested in the lore but also feel no particular desire to rewatch the movies. But if I was rewatching any Star Wars movies it would be the prequels

@Gargron

We're in the middle of Episode 2 right now, but only because my daughter wanted to. I still can't get into them, but the Clone Wars cartoon series helps and is full of great moments. I think a lot of our perception depends on our age when the movies came out. Born in 1978, I love the original trilogy but ROTJ is my favorite.

Curtis McHale

@Gargron My daughter enjoys them and we're going on a date over the holidays to see the new one. We'll probably sit down over a few days and watch all the older ones too

@Gargron

tbh The Mandalorian gives that good old star wars feeling without the childish story

I read the terrible Episode IX pitch where Rey is a robot - Jenny Nicholson

@Gargron always love to see low-level boss Snokes appear again as mob enemies later in the game to save on resources

Hosaka

@Gargron That guy is the representation of a "foreigner" here in Japan. He's cool, but annoying sometimes :)

It has taken almost 30 days to cancel my NordVPN account (wanted to give it a go after PIA was acquired). Can not recommend.

The weird thing is that I am not a *fan* of Mastodon (the band). They have some really good songs but if I was naming my software after bands I was a fan of you'd much sooner see Tesseract

@Gargron makes sense, for some reason I thought you were!
I guess if it were to do with being a fan we'd all be using Devin right now

wakest ⁂

@Gargron Tesseract is a much cooler name then Mastodon honestly. Maybe you could adopt it as the next 4.0 version number code name

Just thinking about how there's a special scientific word for the process of creatures evolving into a crab-like form because apparently that's a thing that happens

This site includes lot of porn. Pl give options to users to subscribe/unsubscribe.

Let porn not be available to everyone by default. If there is a way to unsubscribe such contents, pl let me know.

faun

@Gargron oooh... is this why a lot of landian accelerationists keep talking about that and identifying as crabs... they want to identify with an innevitable inhuman endpoint of evolution, because that's pretty much their ideology

MarkBruns

@Gargron Some day, a more advanced species than our own will develop a special scientific word for creatures that evolved from the fetid pond of world wide web oblivion and began clawing at their surroundings with scripting languages and web frameworks.

Eugen Rochko

Just now finally watching the crab rave video

anon DJ Daniel

@Gargron I have had crabs before... It's no fun. Please be careful.

Just to give an update on the Wasabi ➡️ Exoscale storage migration, so far fixed permissions on 3,204,000 media attachments, still going (there are 17,818,406 in total).

Until this completes, some older images and videos may be inaccessible. Really sorry about this. A message to Exoscale: For the love of god, implement bucket policies...

@Gargron Eugen, Wasabi ➡️ EXOscale storage migration sounds to me like an Exodus. 🙂

trumpet@mas.to

@Gargron What benefits do you expect from Exoscale over Wasabi? Asking for a friend. (I'm not really I'm asking for myself)

Eugen Rochko

Update on this: It's done! All media attachments should be accessible again

I think if I got to ride Athens public transport just a few more days I would have gotten the hang of reading capital-letter Greek and I'm a bit sad I didn't get to

Can someone explain to me which light bulb color temperature is like... the good one. For mental health and cozyness. I see there's 2600K, 3000K, and even 5600K...

@Gargron Blue light can help with depression and make you more alert or awake. Sunlight level light (probably don't want too much UV though) is good for seasonal depression. Warm light is good for relaxation and sleep.

@Gargron Blue light (~5500) can help with depression and make you more alert or awake. Bluer light (>6500) is good for seasonal depression during a low-light winter. Warm light (~3000) is good for relaxation and sleep.

@Gargron Blue light (~5500) can help with depression and make you more alert or awake, though it can make you more anxious. Bluer light (>6500) is good for seasonal depression during a low-light winter. Warm light (~3000) is good for relaxation and sleep.
