Excited to announce that Kino is a finalist for 2024 iPhone App of the Year! #AppStoreAwards We're honored to be among these nominees: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/11/apple-reveals-45-app-and-game-finalists-for-the-2024-app-store-awards/ The latest Halide update was rejected because, after seven years, a random reviewer decided our permission prompt wasn't descriptive enough. I don't know how to explain why a camera app needs camera permissions. This was one of those rejections where they're like, "If this is a bug fix, we can accept it for now, but you need to fix this in your next update." We replied, "Yes, please approve, we'll fix it." 36 hours later, they approved, but we still need to deal with this. I wrote four thousand words on the follies of Humane, theories of what happened, and why you can't build Apple within the Venture Capital system. Enjoy.

@sandofsky Good read. Thanks! Interesting ending about the VP. Wondering if even Apple can’t do Apple anymore. Feels more AppleTV than iPhone. @sandofsky Phenomenonal read, thank you. I do appreciate big swings and thinking that tries to move the ball forward but Humane didn’t really know where it was going all along. I can see how it’s easy to get frustrated inside Apple but trying to replicate it is a fool’s errand Apple’s worst product? Ex-employees who make their whole identity, “Apple lost its way.” It gives off the cringiest, “she didn’t dump me, I dumped her,” vibes. @sandofsky I ain’t pointing fingers but I’m looking REALLY hard at one guy who “invented autocorrect” and another that sells AI snake oil and claims to be a protege of Jobs. The Lux team has an exciting announcement. (Don't worry, we aren't getting bought.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x2evTucjYY

Because these billboards are just monitors rotated 90 degrees, they’re invisible to polarized sunglasses. It’s like a real-life ad blocker!

@sandofsky That's if you're lucky. The polarization angle of the glasses may be different and it is not certain that it will coincide with the polarization angle of the monitor. Some personal news: after 14 years, I’m leaving the Bay Area. Some of my favorite shots over the years… Mastodon has cracked the top ten social networking apps in the App Store. For context, Signal is at 15.

@sandofsky Mammoth is worth testing during its beta. Really nice and modern client. Likely to convert more bird users when it’s released. https://testflight.apple.com/join/66c1wW8y |
