@jodmentum from a friend: "I wonder if you could still wire it up and hook it up to a little battery and provide usb charging at the table." The next time someone tells you some tech is "inevitable" please laugh directly in their face. And then tell them that's been used as an excuse for exploitation forever, it's a red flag, and if they were smart, they'd avoid it, well, like the plague. But we know how well that's going.

@susankayequinn @davidthewid @histoftech Is the GenAI bubble deflating, though? I would love it if that was the case, but all I see is more and more push for it from big tech, and all the hobbyists lapping it up. Of course they know it's an excuse for exploitation. They were planning on doing the exploiting.

It's the beginning of April. If you have air conditioning and you want to *keep* air conditioning through the hottest summer in 100,000 years, then I recommend you get your AC checked, and if appropriate, replace it with a heat pump β more efficient and a new heat pump won't die in a heat wave. Also: Biden's Inflation Reduction Act gives tax credits for heat pumps. @susankayequinn It will be interesting to see how 2024 goes. If it is a similar trend, we may have reached a tipping point. My new laptop sticker. You can get one here (I'm not affiliated, I just like the sticker): https://movepurposefully.threadless.com/designs/move-purposefully/accessories/sticker/white?size=2-inch Back in Feb, when Grammarly said they were going to think about incorporating AI, I immediately canceled my account and uninstalled. And now they've actually done it. I'm sharing because with everything going on, writers might not realize this is happening.

@susankayequinn it's funny, my cat also figured this out. He wasn't exactly a genius, but he somehow put together a causal link of ' if I paw at this area ( where the spike bar was located), daddy will pay attention to me', requiring me to rig up a bit of duct tape and plastic over the power switch once he had done it a few times. People thought I was making it up. Ursula K Le Guin: "this is the great treason of the artist: a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain"

@susankayequinn @cstross The fact that the hero of the free world is a professional comedian who is standing firm and seeing off the aforementioned poisoner KGB agent effectively solo would be decried as less realistic than Ruby Rhod's hero/ine/ status if it appeared in film @susankayequinn The difference between truth and fiction is that fiction has to make sense, no? |
