So they lived as he wanted them to live They forgot the ways of wild rabbits. They forgot El-ahrairah, for what use had they for tricks and cunning, living in the enemy’s warren and paying his price? They found out other marvelous arts to take the place of tricks and old stories. @neauoire Thankfully it's not relevant to society at large. 😐 Right? :maru: Implemented uxntal pseudo objects in the bootstrap assembler so I can play with them everywhere now, even in the uxn5 repl. repl: https://wiki.xxiivv.com/etc/uxnrepl I'm always impressed when we get important optimization patches to the Hundred Rabbits software, not only are they written in a weird esolang, the way I program with that language is pretty bizarre in itself, so whenever I get a patch and the person manages to make sense of that weird assembly code and mimic my coding style, I'm just blown away. @caffeine For your now page, I just noticed that you use a strange date format, for it to display on the neon kiosk properly, it has to be YYYY-MM-DD. @neauoire I don't share my now page over the kiosk, only the journal and the monthly digest. Are the date there wrong? https://caffeine.wiki/journal.html Pushed an update to Left that adds support for accented Latin glyphs(Latin-1 Supplement), so French, Spanish and a few other languages using the 0xC2 page can be displayed. Left.rom is now 14624 bytes. https://wiki.xxiivv.com/site/left In a crowded market, the supply of content creators hoping to profit from their work directly outstrips demand. @neauoire i have been talking about this exact same problem to circus performers and trying to explain how ultimately there dependence on things like instagram ultimately will not help them it wont necessarily hurt either it just wont do anything except make instagram money as opposed to them. i feel like we need to make new structures to deal with these issues... still thinking about what that means. Made a little compiler of Forth primitives to a 3 stacks pushdown automata virtual machine, because curiosity. @neauoire From his pocket he pulled out a pair of shapeless oiled wool mittens. To our astonishment, before he put them on, he leaned over the side and dunked them, warm and dry, into the water, squeezed them out, then put them on half-sodden. “It’s better,” he said. “Not so cold later.” He was quite right; the gloves acted like wet-suit gloves and reduced the wind’s chill. -- The Brendan Voyage, Tim Severin

@neauoire "How foul do you expect the weather to be?" "Fowl" "Don't you mean 'Foul'?" *Up to my neck in live chickens* "No" I ported the timer example in the Smalltalk-80 image into this sort of super cozy pseudo object-oriented #uxntal. Someone's discarded plastic flowerpots, is someone else's excellent worklight lampshades.

Our plans for the summer are coming into focus. It looks like we'll depart early, head as far north as we can make it, and see if the boat and its crew can weather the cold. This ought to give us taste of what we might expect would we decide to make it further into the arctic next year.

It's hard not to make parallels between this and legacy interface implementation code. Fathy’s 1969 work, ”Architecture for the Poor,” became a standard text in architectural classrooms, inspiring a generation of builders trying to solve acute housing shortages and exploding populations of the Third World. It has been translated into 22 languages – but never into Arabic. He struggled without success to convince Egyptian peasants that mud brick, a traditional building material in Egypt, is preferable to concrete.
