Elkhorn Crest Trail: Summit Lake
My buddy Isaac and I decided to explore the Elkhorn Crest National Recreation Trail. It’s the highest trail in the Blue Mountains and traverses the Elkhorn ridgeline in Northeast Oregon. From near Anthony Lakes, we hiked 10 miles to camp at Summit Lake. Very impressed by the views on the way and we had the lake to ourselves. Fall is upon us but great weather so far.

Elkhorn Crest Trail: Lost Lake
I’ve seen a lot of wildlife but have never before encountered a cow on the trail. Especially strange at 8,000 feet (2,438 m.) in the mountains. Luckily, she went back down the mountainside to graze with her friends in the valley below. We hiked until the sun went down to see as much as possible, almost 27 miles. Really want to come back and explore the side trails and southernmost end.
