Democracy's Library kicked off with Canada and the US. Canadian govdocs are under "Crown Copyright" which makes things less clear.

The Libraries in Canada have just written a Best Practices to make it more clear on how to build Democracy's Library Canada.

Go Canada!

Don't be fooled! Librarians are a completely different genus, they are also extending their hours here in Toronto just so folks in the heat wave have somewhere with air-conditioning and no user fees. Imagine!

Dangerous people, librarians. πŸ˜…

Internet Archive suffered a major power outage over the weekend and we are still recovering; if the site seems a little janky and slow, that's why.

@textfiles I am now uploading and see problems but didn't want to brother. good to see an explanation.

@textfiles how failsafe are the archives? you might want to look at the backend design of Google's servers. and/or register the nonprofit outside the reach of the courts, large corporations like google do it to avoid paying taxes, copyright only allows companies to hide the truth of there corruption and harm.

With climate change posing a threat for island nations & their cultural heritage, preservation efforts are now more crucial than ever. Learn how our partnership with Aruba’s national library & archives is helping in this PBS NewsHour story: youtube.com/watch?v=3cSL2xFNOL

COVID is back, and Climate Change. Oh, no. The world is ending. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ I live on an island, and the population is fine. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

What is harming the population? The over-regulation of the "green" laws, the "gun control" disarming the good guys, and the inflation causing policies of the left-wing that's in charge here.

@internetarchive you can persevere culture about as well as you can persevere a piece of fruit. It is a constantly changing thing and efforts to preserve it will also change it. Documentation is what's important.

@internetarchive o god this is so frustrating. even the judges mixing up first sale and fair use; stating that it's distributing millions of copies for free; no real discussion of the downside of a digitized book vs a real ebook. *ooof!*
