 Twitter is honestly pretty funny now. A small army of sycophants have somehow managed to turn it into a political statement to give $8 to the world's second richest fool. Meanwhile, the overgrown edgelord himself has managed to turn giving away free blue checks into some form of punishment. Like the cone of shame, but... smaller. And more pixelly. "Can you explain this gap in your resume?" Yes. Life is about more than constant and meaningless toil for 40-50 years and a desolate twilight of failed ambitions. The social contract is broken and the system is a lie. You and I are both trapped in the same Sisyphean hell, where no amount of working harder or longer will ever truly grant the rewards we were promised. The real question is, why are there no gaps in YOUR resume? “…” Errr, freelancing. I was freelancing.

  As a mostly heterosexual with some nice gay sex experiences, I'm probably qualified. Also, I love Italy, espresso and pizza. But clerics are absolutely not my kink, sorry! All tech people should be forced to test their fancy new software on 5-year-old hardware with a rural internet connection.

Expectation management! ;)  The world's oldest tree is a Great Basin bristlecone pine, growing in the Inyo National Forest in California. It is 4854 years old. This tree germinated while the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt was flourishing, and predates most of written human history. It's older than the Olmec civilisation, older than the first Chinese writing, older than Stonehenge. By the time Sappho was writing her poems, it was already ancient. Sometime I need to go to California to do an ancient trees tour. Between the Ancient Bristlecone Forest and the Redwood National and State Parks, there are so many things there I need to see. I feel like sci-fi writers have a lot to answer for in enshrining Musk as part of popular culture. For years now, there have been stories which make casual references to him. Stories which include inconsequential mentions of little pieces of worldbuilding like "the Elon Musk space station" may not sound like much, but they all work to plant seeds in people's minds and strengthen connections. It also strengthens this bizarre impression that Musk is the "cool" billionnaire. No one names stuff after Bezos or Branson in fiction. But somehow, the idea that Musk is worthy of mention just entered popular consciousness and hasn't left. It's likely this has helped to embolden his own horrifically large ego and his legion of fawning fanboys. Society has moved past the need for news outlets, from now on I want to hear about all current events from a trio of swamp witches who only speak in rhyming couplets Unfortunately, I’m on Tumblr, so learning headlines through destiel memes will have to suffice. |

Listen. I am an internet ancient. I stood amidst LiveJournal as it crumbled while I watched the fall of Flickr. I was there both times Tumblr burned down, toasting marshmallows over its smouldering ruin, laughing at the folly of Verizon. The death of Twitter was foretold by the dark prophecies of the forgotten internets. I am there to witness its passing as the old internet is dying and the new internet struggles to be born. Now is the time of monsters.
