Someone posted a Heathcliff comic so I saw it and then skipped ahead to the more recent ones. It's the Heathcliff artist okay? Like what even is this?? I want a comfy office chair. Maybe even a... gamer chair. Yeah... really. What ones are good? Preferably available to buy in Germany. @sixohsix Gamer chairs are not comfortable. I was very unhappy with my Maxnomic purchase. I sit in a cheap office chair now. Still not perfect but more comfortable than the gamer chair was. Trying Signal for messaging, the very secure messaging solution. Messages are getting stuck and not arriving on the other side. Umm. "Der Lockdown" is a new word in German, as far as I know appearing sometime last year. Who exactly decided it should get the masculine "der" prefix? Someone must have decided, or a consensus was reached. So as I understand it, in tech terminology, The Cloud is other people's computers and The Edge is your own computer. @sixohsix The edge is often other people’s computer that’s closest to you topographically Disney+ to premiere ten new Star Wars series in the next year. How do you enjoy having your childhood movie memories rammed down your throat? The Guardian ranks every Neil Young album. [DATA EXPUNGED]
New house doesn't have a washing machine hookup yet, so I'm at a laundromat. Thinking about how weird it is that most houses have massive white laundry machines, cheaply made and prone to breakdown, that are run at about 10% capacity at most. Meanwhile a laundromat has usually industrial machines that are tough as heck and can be run at much higher capacity. It's easy more economical and environmentally friendly. On the other hand schlepping my laundry to the laundromat is annoying. Of course the reasonable thing to do is to call a professional instead of doing home repairs myself but the professionals are exactly why my light switches no longer control my overhead lights, half my power sockets don't work, and my DSL has no signal. Dark Mirror season one: Social Media could be bad. Dark Mirror season three: Social Media could be bad if and only if we also have robot bees. How come a movie at 24 frames per second looks great but a game at 30 frames per second looks like garbage? So in terms of building the most overly-elaborate solution to a problem, is it feasible to use cryptographic methods to shuffle and partition a virtual deck of playing cards? The players must not know what cards their opponents have but must be able to verify that if a player plays a card, that they had that card in their hand and didn't invent it out of thin air. Audio nerds, tell me what you think is the absolute best mixed and mastered album. I think it's Fleetwood Mac - Tango in the Night. It just sounds like money. Every instrument has its neat little place in the spectrum, and there's a real airyness to the whole thing. (* note: I know full well that mixing and mastering is only one aspect that makes an album good. There are many albums that make up for less that stellar mixing with amazing songwriting and performance. I'm just curious about this one aspect today.) @sixohsix I think this is a tough question because mastering is less of a gradient. It's more of a threshold. Beyond a certain point it sounds awful, after a certain point it sounds good, it's hard to grade by this. Watching more Mosfilm movies, it seems like Russia had incredibly good film stock, back when movies actually needed film. Low dynamic range, but such incredibly rich colour. @sixohsix Hmm, I'm not sure about this, but didn't a bunch of movies get colored in post-production? 12
