China aims to add 160 GW of wind and solar capacity in 2023, an increase of 33% year on year.

For context it's more than 2X the entire electricity generation capacity of the UK, all sources of energy combined.

@yogthos
I'm okay with capitalism but - for the past 20 years the rich have pressed us for "unrestrained" capitalism. The job of democracy is specifically to restrain the powerful in the interest of the common good. The whole world has been sliding towards fascist oligarchy. I hope Canada can be a better voice for social democracy.

Rustpad is an efficient and minimal open-source collaborative text editor based on the operational transformation algorithm. It lets users collaborate in real time while writing code in their browser. Rustpad is completely self-hosted and fits in a tiny Docker image, no database required.

You'd never guess from the headline that Gates donated money to himself.

Bill gates made 2022's biggest charitable donation: $5 billion
Topping the list is gates, who gave $5 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

@yogthos at least the foundation is required to disclose where the money goes, unlike personal wealth. A small silver lining I realise, but not nothing.

In warehouses, call centers, and other sectors, intelligent machines are managing humans, and they’re making work more stressful, grueling, and dangerous. This is how technology ends up being abused under capitalism.

@yogthos I think this slide from a 1970s IBM presentation should be given more attention by corpos.

@yogthos A case study: in the run up to Christmas we started getting notifications that packages had been delivered when they in fact hadn't been, and they were showing up the following day. I found out why when I happened to see one of the drivers delivering and he apologised. Turns out that every day he was being given way more packages than he could. possibly deliver and was working til 11pm then marking everything left as delivered to get the machine off his back to get some sleep.
