HELLO THERE FOLKS! Itā€™s a lovely day here and Iā€™m reflecting on how nice it is to run a Mastodon community full of such awesome users ā˜ŗļø

We donā€™t often post about this, but just a quick reminder that while this server will always be free to use, it costs us lots of money to run! We have lots of donators already (thank you!) but we need to keep them coming. If youā€™d like to donate the why not buy us a donut* on our Ko-Fi page?

A few people have commented on slow timelines or interaction with other servers. There has been a massive surge in activity today and our queues are very large, they should reduce over time. Please hang in there!

MAS.TO TO-DO LIST:

1) Weā€™ve run quite happily with 100 concurrent database connections, but we need more! The recommended way of doing this is to use pgBouncer. Iā€™m looking into the best way to implement this with minimal/no downtime.

2) With the continuing huge influx of users we may need to upgrade again in the near future. I have a migration plan in place should we need it.

@trumpet would love to get more information about your current setup. Are you running a Postgres cluster or just a single instance? How do you handle backups? etc etc

@trumpet Absolutely the right call at least for the time being. Let all of the smaller servers absorb the incoming swarm and open up registrations again once the dust has settled. Thank you for all that you have done and the work you have put into running mas.to
