We have a small gift for the #Fediverse today: over the past 8 months, we've been building an icon library for various decentralized social platforms and protocols within the space. It's an ongoing effort, and we're happy to release our initial version today. It's like Font Awesome, but for the Social Web!

Distributed Press ( @distributed ) is drafting a new FEP for #ActivityPub for "Peer-to-peer Identities". The general gist is that objects (such as Actors and content) can link to alternate versions of themselves, which can be hosted elsewhere, such as #IPFS. If the server goes down, data can be served from there instead.

You can read the draft proposal here: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src/commit/3efef8bffd9581a116135be4953ccb2ebdf4f482/fep/1024/fep-1042.md

We're putting out a survey to #Fediverse instance admins, regarding the size, operational costs, and community funding of instances. The survey is very brief, and completely anonymous. We hope to compile this data into a report in the near future.

It may be that this is little more than an extremely unfortunate glitch, but it's really unfortunate timing for #Threads. The thing is, companies like Meta don't have a great history with #Fediverse projects.

@hello It does appear to be a glitch, and I do want to say that the Threads team has been nothing but supportive regarding debugging federation support with Pixelfed and other platforms, so I do have hope they will maintain good working relationships with fediverse platforms.

I appreciate all the support, and look forward to the bright future of the fediverse ❀️

#ActivityPub has remained the dominant #Fediverse protocol over the past few years. In that time, many bright ideas have come on how to improve the spec. Here's where those efforts are today.

The #Fediverse might be getting their own mashups of Tiktok, YouTube, and Vine sooner than anyone thought, thanks to the work of one prolific dev spearheading an effort.

#Lemmy, one of the biggest federated Reddit alternatives, is up against a surprising problem: users and admins can't delete images.

Here's why that matters.
