@AnarchistArt It's the 'minority' among refugees or those that don't 'behave' as good guests that make the general public of the host country fear them. Politicians and 'some' elements use that.

Before someone comes at me, I know it too well - Mizoram to continue helping displaced Chins from Myanmar. We have maybe ONE murder case in five years. Last year alone we had 5 murder cases - not domestic but robbery or car jacking. All committed by Burmese refugees. And then there's the drug smuggling problem.

In my native village alone, rents have shot to ₹10k plus when people would be shocked at a ₹4k rent two or three years ago. No, it's not like the economy is booming. Many of the Burmese refugees receive funds from their fellow Burmese from foreign countries or from smuggling (meth and heroin). They'll go to the house owner (landlord) with a wad a cash and offer 2-3 times the normal rate. Who would refuse? And why wouldn't locals hate that?
