Sigil 12

I'm still
trying to
find my way
into
myself

8" x 8"
Acrylic, Collage, Gold Leaf, Graphite
Wood Panel

A ribbon-like, collaged entity wraps around a gilded, gold square. Inside the square is an archway with a star above it. Surrounding the square are drawings of a face and door, collaged sheet music, and text in Wormrōte that reads 'I'm still trying to find my way into myself'.

First spontaneous reaction: love this! It draws me in, intrigues me, makes me wonder, makes me stop to look and open up. Thank you! 💚

I don't often post for a time-sensitive thing, but I figured some of y'all would like to know that my new set of Magic: The Gathering cards are now available!

secretlair.wizards.com/us/prod

The MtG card 'Teferi's Ageless Insight', which depicts a shadowy hand holding a sigil containing the cycles of the moon.
The MtG card 'Preordain', which depicts a many-colored pentagonal shape with an eye in the center, nearly grasped by five shadowy hands.
The MtG card 'Back to Basics', which depicts a tree hovering in space, bound by sigils.
The MtG card 'Sphinx of the Second Sun', which depicts a sphinx in a temple setting, flanked by two setting suns.

Sigil 5 (A Slow-Moving Tower of Babel)

12" x 12"
Acrylic, Charcoal, Graphite, Collage, Silver and Gold Leaf
Wood Panel

A three-winged, many-eyed angel resembling a crown of thorns hovers above a black tower. Near it, a Wormrōte sigil reads 'A Slow-Moving Tower of Babel'. Behind them, a faint collage of hymns can be seen in the background, and various details such as sigils are gilded in silver and gold leaf.

The perfect encapsulation of where Silicon Valley has been taking us for years.

Let this radicalize you into picking up a paintbrush or a guitar. As much as I work digitally, there's SO much satisfaction in the physical act of creation — in all its roughness and mess.

Apple and every other tech capitalist are desperate to lock you into endless subscriptions, dongles, and yearly upgrade cycles, squeezing you of every last drop.

Resist. Buy used, if you must. But look for escape routes, because this shit is untenable.

Sigil 2 (Learning)

4" x 4"
Acrylic, Charcoal, Graphite, Collage, Gold Leaf
Wood Panel

A Wormrōte sigil meaning 'learning' is highlighted with a star in gold leaf. A faint collage of hymns is scattered in the background, and the edges of the round panel are gilt in gold leaf.

@helveticablanc Gold leaf looks so fun to work with. A friend of mine used it a lot on her personal works too, been a fan since then :>!
The texture of traditional works is so damn satisfying. Beautiful work, as always.

Sigil 1 (Small Changes to Prevent Large Ones)

12" x 12"
Acrylic, Charcoal, Graphite, Collage, Gold Leaf
Wood Panel

My process has slowed significantly, and I'm enjoying working roughly in traditional media for the first time in years. For more frequent updates of what I'm working on, check my website!

A mixed media piece composed of acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite, collage, and gold leaf. A cow-like baphomet gestures below a winding, shaded Wormrōte sigil that fills the frame. Collage of hymns are littered throughout, and a gold leaf star, circle, and lines highlight the frame.
Devine Lu Linvega

@helveticablanc the piece is turning out amazing <3 I love it!

It looks like you have an idea for the frame with more detailing, looking forward to seeing it.

There's so many things I want to make: paintings, webcomics, prose, music, etc.

I'm eternally stretched thin and feel like I'm only good at a couple of them, but am grateful for the folks who appreciate me bouncing between media so much. 🙏

The Shipyard

@helveticablanc same omg! You're not alone in this scattering of interests, clearly.

Hyphinett

@helveticablanc This is why I became a game developer tbh. I love it all even the programming (in small doses 😅 ) Never stop making art and never restrict yourself.

R E K

@helveticablanc I really feel the same way. Sometimes I find myself wishing my work was more focused(only doing illustration, say), but I know that this wouldn't make me happy :).

All of those different creative outlets you mentioned feed one another, and permit you to better flesh out your ideas :>.

One thing I learned in my December Adventure was that I really wanted a custom variant of a font that I already make extensive use of — Basteleur.

I reached out to the designer, Keussel, and commissioned him to make my own unicase variant.

Here's a little sample of Basteleur Blanc, and you can see it in action on my website: helveticablanc.com

I made a lot of art this year, but the thing I'm most proud of is finally publishing the first short story for Wormsong:

@helveticablanc it's so beautiful...

i had an idea to make something similar about my conscripts, but i don't know when (or even if) it'll happen

Finally starting my December Adventure after wrapping up a zine project.

It's a little Times New Roman, a little Basteleur, a little Medieval script, and a little monocase. Just a weird little amalgam for my personal use!

Sun's down, here's some little guys! My work on the Nōr is going well 😌

Several Nōr; one has been injured and is about to see a physician.
Two Nōr having a drink, and a third who is enjoying their drink a little too much.
Devine Lu Linvega

@helveticablanc wow, I love em so much, look at that little guy with a briefcase <3

Sometimes I make ambient music under the name Wormsong, and recently I was honored to have a track in the compilation Elmet Brae!

You can download it here: orllewin.github.io/elmet_brae/

And you can find my other stuff here: wormsong.bandcamp.com/track/aw

I've decided to take a break from posting new prints so I can recharge and focus on some bigger projects.

I'm still gonna post weekly sketches and oracle cards over on Patreon, though, so now is a great time to sign up!

I’ve very quietly launched Wormsong on my website. Right now it's just an opening poem, but it'll eventually be a combination of short fiction, illustrations, essays, and a wiki. I’ll let y'all know when I make updates!

@helveticablanc Lovely landing page for the project, I expect that in a few weeks each word of the poem be clickable and sending deeper into the world.
