Did you know that #Roman road design included #safety features?

In the ruins of #Pompeii, you'll notice small white stones interspersed with the large paving ones along the extensive roads.

Those white #stones are 'cats eyes', i.e. gems that have a single line of inclusion of crystals of another mineral inside.

Upon light reflecting on them (from the #moon), they enable the walker to see that they are still on the right path!

Did you know that #Korea is home to a #metal #monster?

The Bulgasari is a creature comprised of an elephant, a tiger, a bear & a bull.

An outlaw #monk once created it from rice, fed it needles, & it grew fat on the metal.

The government sent soldiers to kill it, but it simply devoured their weapons.

After being beaten by the monk for disobedience, it fled & is believed to still roam the Koreas.

Did you know that #Victorian #fashion almost wiped out shore #birds in #Florida?

During the Victorian Age, bird plumage on hats was all the rage. Within 16 years, 5 million #birds per annum were #killed for decoration.

Egrets, a type of #heron were especially popular.

28g (1 oz) sold for the same price as gold in 1915.

@mythologyandhistory I recently heard from the iron snail, a history of fashion vlogger, that the automobile killed plumage on hats. People couldnโ€™t ride in cars without messing up their headdresses.

@mythologyandhistory Iโ€™m guessing these numbers would look small compared to whatever we โ€œharvestโ€ for food or fashion nowadays.
