For instance, when the only way to 'compete' is by screwing over your customers, maybe it's time to try a different system. Insurance most obviously fits into this category, and I think public utilities are similar (like the UK's privatized sewage disaster). Health Insurance contracts out prior auth and denials to isolate liability. Denying lifesaving healthcare and responsibility for a buck. How people think AI is going to kill them: terminator robots. How AI is actually going to kill them: by destroying their habitat and drinking all their water.

Don't count out the killer robots. They are coming along nicely. Just because they will be deployed by humans and not by SkyNet and won't be self-replicating doesn't make them not a threat. All those "human in the loop" systems are being developed with the knowledge that it would be more profitable to take the human out of the loop at some point. Palantir drools about it. I mean, if an EU citizen’s initiative to tax the rich cannot get a paltry 1 million signatures (less than one quarter of one percent of the population), I guess we really must deserve this bullshit system. Quick, everyone, use the same tech by the same huge corporations… what could possibly go wrong? @aral well, apple is too expensive and linux stops working every week and takes a week to try to find a fix for before you give up and reinstall the old horror again To understand your own privilege, ask yourself whether you see politics as a game or as survival. Where you land on that spectrum should give you a fairly good idea of how privileged you are.

FFS, GNOME! Just wasted a day of editing video because the built-in screen recorder records screencasts at such a low quality that I ended up with keyframe artefacts / ghosting in my captures. Bloody hell… And is there any way to set the quality? Is there ever! [Edit] Use OBS. (Thanks everyone in the replies.) (Don’t use GNOME’s built-in screen recorder if you’re posting HD+ videos.)

The very fact we have to say “vote against fascism” is a damning indictment of the failure of our democratic institutions and the rule of law. You shouldn’t be able to vote FOR fascism. Democracies that lack constitutional safeguards against fascism will, eventually, stop being democracies. When? At the last election. The one that elected the fascists. Democracy cannot tolerate fascism. Tolerance cannot tolerate intolerance. I’m afraid this is a lesson we will learn the hard way. Again.

 @aral This is what I've been trying to say to the Liberals that tell me to vote for the fascist win, but it's not posible to vote out fascism.
