Just installed @elementary on my laptop.

The installation was a breeze, an excellent experience, way ahead of anything other Linux distros have to offer. (save for maybe using plain Gparted as a partition manager, looks out of place. Maybe, roll your own someday, guys?)

And fresh after install, the system looks VERY polished, and the run-once onboarding app was nice.

Let's see how it holds up this time.

But I'm still kinda "meh" on using an almost a year-old package base, having landed myself on Manjaro on the desktop which is a little bit more dynamic.

Publishing "games as a service" without clearly defined exit strategy (i.e. measures that would either help the community preserve the game after the support cycle is over and official servers are closed OR refunds all the money to the players) should not be the norm.

In fact, it should be culturally unacceptable, it should qualify as a sacrilege, equivalent to book burning. Because this is what it is - pieces of culture being erased - worse - marked for total and complete erasure before they even come into existence.

It should be frowned upon, and maybe even illegal.

Что если GTA (открытый мир, тачки, пушки, криминал, сатира, юмор, безумие, вкуснейшая музыка), но сюжетка - больше в ImmerSim-дизайне (системность, отсутствие одного "правильного" способа прохождения, поощрение изобретательности игрока)?

@drq ты зря скобки ставил. Хотя я прошёл System Shock. В отличие от ранних GTA, из которых я осилил только 5-ю часть. Мне кажется, в GTA там сюжетка всё же ни разу не в иммерсивном дизайне. Да, некоторые вещи можешь иначе сделать. Но System Shock, игра 1994 года меня поражала своими фишками. Чего не скажешь про GTA.

@drq скучно, очень скучно.

В GTA дико устаревший геймдизайн. Если миссии не выстраивать по рельсам и не делать из них мини-фильмы, то они сводятся к простым механикам уровня MMO, но только игрок может заранее прибыть сразу на вертолёте и пропустить поездку. Или запастись миниганом и пропустить перестрелки. В каждой миссии.

Знаешь на чём строится баланс того же Deus Ex HR? На дефиците патронов. К самой мощной снайперке дают пять штук из шести. Поощрение изобретательности.

ElementaryOS is the Linux's best attempt at The Platform.

It's a shame that it's so far behind Gnome and KDE right now.

I mean, six versions into Pantheon, it still doesn't support Wayland. And the package base is Ubuntu LTS, read "obsolete on release".

Their UI/UX is top notch, but they need to do something about their tech debt.

Deus Ex 1 deserves a Black Mesa style remake. Leave core gameplay and ideas, modernize graphics (haul it over to the modern engine) and touch up on mechanics. I'd buy this shit so hard.

There's a lot of games and stories that tell us that we're fucked and the society is doomed.

DX is the only game that showed us *HOW EXACTLY* we're fucked and doomed.

Really, scrape off the deliberately thin science fiction veneer - and you pretty much have the today and all of our biggest problems made manifest.

Capital consolidation, centralization of communications and death of privacy, billionaires with ties to government, the global pandemic that started in China (Yikes!), corporate neocolonialism, state-sanctioned terrorism, radicalization, unemployment, the real economy turning to shit all the while demonstrating great numbers that bosses like, poor people being marginalized and taxed up to their throats while the rich get off the hook, and, to quote Ross Scott, as many homeless people as there are pigeons.

The game literally predicted all of this. Down to two towers disappearing (it was a texture size limitation thing, and is a coincidence - but still!)
