Is your school forcing you to use Zoom, Skype, or other proprietary videoconferencing software to learn or teach? Freedom is important to education. Read about freedom-respecting choices at u.fsf.org/311

Dave Lane 🇳🇿

@fsf this list really needs to contain BigBlueButton (bigbluebutton.org) as does any education-related video-conferencing discussion. It's both FOSS and designed specifically for that use-case. Plus, it's better than the other FOSS options in general.

@fsf Worse, I need a Google Account just to sign into my school website!

@fsf I'm surprised Big Blue Button isn't up there!

Do you know what's in your software? The FSF is fighting every day for your right to control your computer. Start the conversation in your community and encourage your friends to join the FSF! fsf.org

An image of a computer that says on its monitor, "Ingredients proprietary" with junk food displayed underneath. Above the computer, it says, "Do you know what's in your software?"

@fsf
In the drawing the keyboard is attached to the monitor, the mouse is attached to the computer, while the monitor is NOT attached to the computer. Yet an image appears on the monitor.

So, there is obviously a wireless HDMI and USB connection between computer and monitor. Which monitor or other hardware supports this AND works with free software?

@fsf A nice idea.

However, operating systems don't succeed with non-technical users (typical consumers) unless they 1) assert a minimum level of hardware features that would complement their platform and 2) establish a hardware certification program with a licensed compatibility logo that hw merchants and shoppers can easily recognize.

Windows and Android did these things to great effect.

@fsf scrolling along, my eye was drawn to "potential nominees" which my brain immediately parsed as "potential nominess", ie: how much would I enjoy nom-nom-nomming it.

I had to think that. Now you'vre read that. I am not sorry.
