You heard it here first at #LibrePlanet 2024 from Trisquel maintainer Luis Guzman: the codename of Trisquel 12 will be Ecne!

@fsf

Also, we learned #Trisquel's history and why it's based on Ubuntu and not Debian. Thanks to #Libreplanet!

As long as the code behind "smart" home devices is proprietary, these companies are free to spy on us as much as they like. Help us fight back: tell your friends about free software and urge them to join the FSF! Support #FreeSoftware. fsf.org

"We are thrilled that Alyssa Rosenzweig will keynote #LibrePlanet 2024. Her work is fascinating and trailblazing. As long as companies like Apple deny its users the freedoms we all deserve, we rely on free software developers like Rosenzweig to defend it," says Zoë Kooyman, executive director of the FSF. u.fsf.org/43c

"Many young students have a talent for programming; they are fascinated with computers and eager to learn how their systems work. With proprietary software, this information is a secret so teachers have no way of making it available to their students. But if it's free software, the teacher can explain the basic subject and then hand out the source code for the student to read and learn." gnu.org/education/edu-why.html #LearnLibre #FreeSoftware #SoftwareFreedom

The Canadian *Bill C-26*, which is now with the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (u.fsf.org/433), may endanger the viability of small free software projects as they may not be able to pay the costs to comply with the reforms. u.fsf.org/432

@fsf @sachac love this comic! I remember the first time I successfully installed a distribution and I was like - omg! I get ALL THIS and for FREE!? - and that delight pretty much stayed with me. No time limits, no annoying keycodes, no limited functionality, no being nagged about piracy. Every distribution is like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you're going to get, but it's always good.

@fsf Nice presentation. Though as I understand it, one-sided privacy isn't really privacy at all.
