Last week I was due to give a presentation on openstreetmap-website development at the State of the Map Europe conference in ŁódΕΊ πŸ‡΅πŸ‡±

Unfortunately I got ill on the morning of the second day!

So I've made a home recording of my presentation. Although it's a poor substitute for doing it live, I hope it's still interesting to watch:

As it says at the end, comments and questions are welcome!

When I was preparing the presentation I wanted some stats, and when I saw them I had to double-check some of the numbers! From July 2023 to end of June 2024 we had:

* 669 opened pull requests
* 571 merged pull requests
* 35 developers (17 new this year)
* 192 people discussing issues (94 new this year)
* 137 new translators
* A new maintainer
* A new issue triager

... leading to a whole bunch of new and improved features.

It's been quite an impressive last 12 months!

@gravitystorm great presentation! And thanks for all the work you're putting into OSM πŸ™Œ

@gravitystorm Thanks for recording and publishing that, really interesting to know all these almost invisible changes are ongoing.

It's worth highlighting the amount of work that was done on the openstreetmap-website project in April by Anton Khorev and @tomh - I count around 77 pull requests reviewed and merged by Tom, many of those created by Anton, along with some great PRs created by other people too!

I was busy elsewhere last month, but I'm looking forward to doing more in May.

In the meantime, your help is always welcome, particularly with reviewing PRs!

It's great to see @tomh getting some recognition for all his work on @openstreetmap - it really can't be overstated how much work he puts in every year.

I was delighted to be invited back onto the Geomob podcast for the OpenStreetMap 19th Birthday episode πŸŽ‚

Ed and I shared some memories from the early days of OpenStreetMap and I'm always interested in hearing other anecdotes - what are your favourites? How did you get started, and who got you interested?

And as I said in the episode, some of my memories might be hazy on those days 🍻 , so if you were there and fancy jogging my memory, please do! πŸ˜‚

@gravitystorm many many moons ago when I was still at university I went out for a late evening bike ride and got a bit lost in the dark. I remember going along a road under a railway bridge and seeing a railway station sign but no obvious entrance. I got home and the next day started wondering if there was some way to record where I had been. At which time I discovered GPS trackers and OpenStreetMap when the map is mostly blank.
