SponsorBlock (and DeArrow)

YouTube is currently experimenting with server-side ad injection. This means that the ad is being added directly into the video stream.

This breaks sponsorblock since now all timestamps are offset by the ad times.

For now, I set up the server to detect when someone is submitting from a browser with this happening and rejecting the submission to prevent the database from getting filled with incorrect submissions.

@sponsorblock Youtube keeps spending money on a war they can't win. We will always find a way

@sponsorblock A potential solution to this is to store not just a timecode on sponsorblock server, but a video-fingerprint (like store mean variance of group of pixels in like 5 random position, each 10 frame)

sad to have to fight this... (they premium cost so much also, and they censor everything, not neutral...)

@sponsorblock do you know if they're injecting ads within individual DASH segments or do they have the ad serving logic where they serve the DSAH metadata?

Stop using random anti-adblock fixes you find on the internet, these are almost always out of date and interfere with the actual anti-adblock features in uBlock Origin. YouTube is changing their anti-adblock code multiple times per day.

Simply do the following:
1. Use uBlock Origin and no other adblocker. This includes disabling adblocking in "Enhancer for YouTube", and any built in browser blocker
2. Purge caches and update filters
3. Reload the tab

Reminder to not use Opera browser.

Not only because of their parent company's predatory loan history, but they also restrict extensions (such as uBlock Origin) from working on search engine pages so that they can force you to see search ads that they benefit from.

@sponsorblock

I don't use Opera browser because it's owned by a Chinese company. But it preventing uBlock Origin from working is another reason not to use it.

@sponsorblock The Opera crowd is now found at Vivaldi mostly.

@sponsorblock I tried it for a couple of months. It made so many weird choices on my behalf.

@sponsorblock Does this mean a takedown of the app's imminent? It's a great app; that would suck.
