I'm the oldest daughter of two Lt Colonels, and the product of a three-generational military family on both sides, and I think y'all need to listen to the next bit:

We ended the draft because the military's analysis of the Vietnam War revealed that 90% of all draftees would not shoot to kill, even when it was life or death. They'd shoot high or low, but they *couldn't* shoot to kill. As such, they actively degraded the war effort.

So you need to think twice before arming yourselves.

There's a lot of *wildly* irresponsible rhetoric floating around right now about how all queer folk should arm themselves to resist what's coming. And, deadass?

If you're armed, and you're not 10000% sure that you can shoot to kill, the only thing you're gonna do is get yourself and everyone around you dead.

Period.

A weapon is a *massive* escalation. Meanwhile, the tool that really gets you out of deadly trouble in a fascist dictatorship?

A silver tongue and steely guts.

@Impossible_PhD The book _Generation Kill_ by Evan Wright is a good read on people not being able to shoot to kill and the amount of training needed to get them to do it, amongst other โ€œstrangeโ€ reactions to war.

A friend recently commented that she hoped the people she insulted and offended in 2023 would do better in 2024 so she didn't have to do it again.

Wow. This is actually pretty big news.

The first RCT trial for immediate access to HRT--testosterone to transmascs--has published its findings. In it, 52% of those given immediate access to testosterone had an **IMMEDIATE CESSATION** of their previously-present suicidal ideation, compared to 5% of those given a placebo. A treatment being *ten times* more effective than placebo is pretty much as decisive as it gets.

@Impossible_PhD do you have a link to the study? because i see nothing in that article that mentions a placebo, only a comparison between people who received T HRT immediately vs. people who continued to be stuck on waitlists

@Impossible_PhD Iโ€™m confused about why a placebo was used here. Wouldnโ€™t pretending to give someone HRT be pretty unethical in this kind of research study?

@Impossible_PhD It's not a perfect cure here, but without it, I'd be even worse than I *am* and that's saying a lot (and yes, I know anecdote is not data)
