Hey artists, my partner is on mastodon.art and can't see, like, 50% of the federation because her instance has blocked so many other instances.

Is there another, better, art-focused instance that she can move to? It's frustrating to both of us but obviously mostly her.

UPDATE: she moved over to @hnrfineart! Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions! Reward yourselves with a little bit of ice cream or some sherbet today! 🙏 😀

@jgilbert does she *need* to be on an arty instance? Does she follow the local stream rather than the people she has click-followed?

@jgilbert @Kitty Runs mastoart.social, who was very supportive of my drawings for September and October challenges!

They could pick a non art based instance where the vibe checks out. bsd.network is mostly tech but have some great mods. The instance matters more for the moderation and how fast you start out in my opinion.

As someone who spent a large portion of '98 and '99 making sure shit didn't break on Y2K, I'd like to extend a very heartfelt FUCK YOU to HBO for greenlighting a piece of shit documentary that suggests that effort wasn't necessary.

screen shot of the description of an HBO original "documentary" that frames issues with Y2k as "rumors".

Seriously HBO, you can suck eggs in hell: I'm *quite certain* that your company would have had issues had you not leveraged efforts of others making sure you stayed functional on Jan 1 2000.

@jgilbert 98-99 I sat next to the group that was doing Y2K work for a massive national phone and data carrier, and those guys were working their asses off.

My experience was that I spent a very dull 6 months going though COBOL code, checking for date fields. Changing YY to YYYY.

They may have been non-critical systems but a lot of the telco's billing could have fouled up and caused financial issues.

Unix code has its own Y2K38 problem. Could be lots of last minute work for programmers on those legacy systems.

@jgilbert concur. I oversaw an Operations division in a large , regional bank. These projects began years before and were very complex…. And successful.

@jgilbert@mastodon.social okay but seriously people even here is not safe, cops can just walk into a data center, ram dump the box, and walk off with the entire database and search for abortion with keywords. USE SIGNAL AND OTHER ENCRYPTED APPS WHEN TALKING ABOUT ABORTION
