Urban Dinosaurs

More winter birds in Central Park: a white-breasted nuthatch, a male and a female northern cardinal, and, watching over everything, a juvenile red-tailed hawk.

The nuthatch is walking down the trunk of a tree with its head sticking out parallel to the ground.

The male cardinal is on a thin branch, facing me, with its head tilted to its right.

Urban Dinosaurs

Feeding time for baby robins. The odd thing is the two side-by-side nests—yesterday, I saw three chicks in the left nest; today; I saw two chicks in the right nest (and one fledgling on the ground). I don't know if both nests were active or if the chicks just moved.

There are two nests. In the left nest, three robins want to be fed. The one on the left is looking to the left, with its beak open; the one in the center is looking straight ahead with its beak open; the one on the right is looking right but with its beak closed.

There are two nests. An adult robin is standing on the left nest, feeding one of two chicks in the right nest.
