@kellogh due to some limitations with how mastodon works it asks for your instance address and if you are already logged in on that browser, that’s it. Also it will try to remember whatever instance you entered for next time. I’ve tried to make the process as frictionless as possible without tons of code complexity.

I don't think that's avoidable (currently), but they do seem to store the response locally:

'Please enter your instance As Mastodon has many servers, we need to know where to send the request. We'll try to remember your instance for next time.'
