When we walk in the trails, we find all these tiny little colorful flakes of plastics on the ground, and all that sort of garbage high-tech outdoors clothing uses forever chemicals. Could it be that modern outdoors clothing is poisoning.. the outdoors. 🤔

@neauoire yeah, "technical" clothing gives me such a bad vibe. I'm a big fan of waxed canvas. It might be heavy, but it's repairable without poisoning yourself.

@neauoire Wouldn't be surprised, AFAIK all the waterproof clothes use PFAS, which is highly toxic and just wearing it has been linked to cancer.

@neauoire I'd love a 100r wiki section on outdoor clothing 😉

@gendor That's a good idea, we have a few things to say about that!

@neauoire after microplastics and nanoplastics, the picoplastics!

@neauoire It's not a popular take but I think you're right. And the sad thing is that most of these materials are not chosen because they are functionally superior. It's mostly that they are _cheaper_ and the main beneficiary of that few cents of savings is some dude with a spreadsheet who doesn't think (or care?) about consequences.

It's also a bit of a sad irony to try to get closer to nature by wrapping yourself in some of the most artificial materials invented.

And the, to my ears, much too loud plastic sounds you make when you wear it.

Cursed, etc. etc.

@neauoire I’d definitely be interested in knowing about more brands that make good quality outdoor clothes without PFAS. The two that I’m most aware of are Fjällräven and Northern Playground — but dang, are they pricy.
