@BrodieOnLinux @lea Newsflash, this says a lot more about the people making a fuss about it than who is depicted in the mockup. The designers and people involved in the project are humans, not apolitical husks. Politics are part of their everyday lives, work and shape the software that ends up in your desktop. This is plain dehumanization on the basis of “omg this is not appropriate or not the time for it” and it’s done to serve a specific purpose, willingly or not. Disgusting. 17 comments

You are the only one that thinks these are equal things here  @BrodieOnLinux I mean, there's a massive difference between using a picture of someone with ideas and someone directly linked to genocide  @TheEvilSkeleton @BrodieOnLinux @alatiera @lea but consider that not everyone from former Soviet Union (or more realistically empire) would like to see a part of their enslaver's culture (marxism-leninism) which was forced on them by all the usual ways — executions, genocide, mass starvation... He may not be directly related to any of that, but his presence isn't welcomed by everyone. Having such figures in examples is absolutely unprofessional. @mks_h oh I agree that having a picture of him shouldn't have been used.
