no one asked but i’ve decided against getting a vision pro at least right now. it doesn’t seem like i can get work done w/ it, which is the only way i can justify spending that much.

i’m worried about ergonomics and the vast majority of apps seem to be lazily-ported ipad apps.

maybe in a few months when more developers can get their hands on the hardware and figure out its strengths but for now, it’s too early. even for me.

@samhenrigold I think that's a good decision. It is really a lot of money.

@Gargron I see a ton of comparisons to the iPad launch and how critics kept saying “it’s just a big iPod touch”. But at least there were app concepts that validated the form factor beyond “we stretched out the phone app and called it a day”.

With the VP, I don’t see many of those concepts. At least not enough to outweigh the boilerplate SwiftUI junk.

The worst feeling for me would be spending a whole month’s rent and then some, only to end up using a bunch of mediocre iPad apps.

@samhenrigold yeah fuck I feel the same way. The apps I’ve seen so far look don’t look enticing at all. It’s just floating iPad windows in space, a concept that would maybe work well if the glasses are just like a pair of reading glasses so you can always wear them. But I’m not going to put in my Vision Pro to set a timer in space…

HOWEVER,… I love love watching movies and just for that use case alone I may still get them. 😂

@eierund If I were the type of person to obsessively craft the perfect home theater, this would be an easy sell for me. But alas, I am a basic bitch. I have a $300 LCD TV and a soundbar I got on black friday in 2014.

Philipp

@samhenrigold haha yeah so maybe not worth it for you.

This will probably be an incredible home theater experience, at least visually. I’m not sure about the audio, though. As you said, people like me craft the perfect home theatre with speakers everywhere and a big ass subwoofer. I don’t know if the speakers in the Vision Pro could replicate that and I’m not sure if you could airplay your Dolby Atmos sound mix to your home theater system.

That’s a story I’m still waiting to be told.

@samhenrigold if i could have N virtual desktops of arbitrary size that could be compelling but it doesn’t sound like that’s an option yet?

@samhenrigold It looks like you started a support group 🤣

Hi everyone. I'm Chris and I'm also NOT buying this generation of Vision Pro. Between the weight and apparent 30hz limitation of the Mac virtual display (Airplay) this won't do as a tool for my work.

Apple needs to do a bit more work for my $4000.

... ask me again after WWDC haha
