the products of the World Wars seem grand right now because we live in their immediate aftermath!
the people who actually fought in them would be disgusted at how subsequent generations glorify a time where they had to live under the constant threat of destruction!
its human instinct to invent, and that's been harnessed in the modern day by markets and the state so it can be the first on the moon or have the best educated citizens
who knows how many inventions you'd have if so many citizens weren't constrained by finances
war is not the optimal method for scientific advancement
anyone who thinks so lacks imagination, empathy for human suffering, or the ability to understand humanity in larger contexts rather than just nostalgia for the HIGH COST products of recent history
its the method favoured by the resurgence of far right lunatics and those who want to escalate the arms race to destruction
