Did you @artemesia actually read the article that You've linked? While you replied "NO" the Disney spokesperson somehow agreed with the @internetarchive To continue disagreeing you should be a better copyright lawyer than those hired by Disney. No, mickey mouse in general is not in the public domain, and someone placing their derivative work in the public domain does not put disney's current mickey mouse in the public domain.
