@sabandijo @Alligator @foolishowl @thomasfuchs CSS is great because it applies styling to HTML. It respects HTML for what it is, and recognizes that different renderings of the information contained in the HTML have different needs. The HTML stays device independent, the CSS renders it in an appropriate format for the current device used.  @heinragas @sabandijo @Alligator @thomasfuchs I'd understood the introduction of CSS as something of a resurgence of the fundamental design principle of HTML. However that's the point at which I lose track of the history of Web design. The Web developers I know start talking about frameworks, and things get very confusing after that.  @foolishowl @heinragas @sabandijo @Alligator The problem with these developers is that most of them have no idea _why_ they're using a framework and about the advantages and disadvantages of using it; they just default into it. @Vishnu2jd @thomasfuchs I literally have to wait minutes for an Electron-based text editor to launch. It's a huge waste of resources. @foolishowl Then that would be a system on which it takes minutes to open a web page, right? @nitind No. In fact I have a Web-browser based markdown editor running on an SBC that opens slower than a native app, but much faster than an Electron-based app running locally.  @foolishowl it's so hilarious how you fully missed the point of the OP and don't even realize it. this post is 10x funnier for that @Vishnu2jd @thomasfuchs @walruslifestyle @Vishnu2jd @thomasfuchs I'm not sure how pointing out that Electron apps are like older apps, but slower and worse, is missing his point.  @foolishowl @walruslifestyle @Vishnu2jd @thomasfuchs If Electron apps ever made it to the size of hype that blockchain, VR, NFT and AI (or rather LLM's) grew to, I'm sorry, I missed it. Have been diligently watching the internet news since 1995, though.   If Electron was a vehicle, it would require a complete 747 to write HelloWorld. But the pilots would still need to wear space suits, because the effing thing would periodically catastrophically decompress at cruising altitude  @foolishowl 1. Although it's marketed as "desktop apps", in the usual bullshit that's "it's better because it's newer"… @foolishowl yeah, I kept it to stuff marketed to consumers, there’s like a never ending list if I’d include developer-centric things  @foolishowl @thomasfuchs people don't use electron despite html, they use it because the other cross-platform solutions are worse |
@foolishowl @thomasfuchs HTML was perfect for what it was designed to do, and then someone decided to use it for something it wasn't designed to do, and now we get layer upon layer of cruft in so many attempts to "fix" HTML, all doomed to fail.
HTML doesn't need fixing.
