@ipg i seed until i find the files again in my hdd 3 months down the line and decide to delete them with a like 5-10 seeding ratio

@lexd0g@wetdry.world @ipg@wetdry.world I have a ratio of 156 (or 14.84 TB uploaded) on Hogwarts legacy. I'm not even interested in playing that game, I just did it to spite jowling kowling rowling

alice

forgot to add: you can use ludusavi and syncthing to have cloud saves. this is like the main reason i buy games when i can

Emma

@lexd0g when are game stores gonna put limitations on whether or not you can have a bullshit extra launcher layer before playing games you buy. i feel like with a de-facto monopoly and "pls i give u 2 billion can u put jame on here" they can at least use that power to strongarm shittier devs

alice

@ipg i wish steam did this every single day

alice

@Ariadne i really did! i was really looking forward to playing it, i was completely fine with paying for it, but i'm not gonna give a developer my money just for them to spit in my fucking face

evil Ariadne is on Kitsu now!

@lexd0g im fine with paying for games as well (i play mostly on my switch because i go around places a lot and plus i bought it when game piracy was still a big no no for me (for the record i understand and respect it now))

alice

@Ariadne i rarely pirate bc of how convenient having something in a launcher is and having access to stuff like cloud saving but rockstar just goes too far with being assholes

@lexd0g yeah exactly, and when something is too pricey for me i usually wait for a sale (like i did with botw, got the game and dlc for less than the normal base game price)

there are two instances where this one spent the full 60 bucks on a nintendo game, it was for mario 3d world and mario wonder

the former because i needed something to play and f2p games werent going to cut it
the latter because after days of consideration this one deemed it as a good purchase (this one was right!)

@lexd0g I was gonna buy battlefield 3 on steam, then I read the reviews that said they bought it and it doesn’t work

It is rly cheap but I changed my mind anyways

@lexd0g

It's literally pain in the ass. Downloading another launcher to play a game that are unoptimized, buggy, or featureless.

Dragoniff

@lexd0g Plus piracy lets you get away with doing cool thing like saying "argh" randomly and calling your friends "scurvy dogs"

Stark Potano

@lexd0g if buying is not owning then piracy is not stealing. and if they don't want us to buy games it means that you don't mind that we can get it for free then

@MagicLike @lexd0g CRIME?! On myyy timeline?!?! Carry on ;p

@lexd0g I am gaming on Linux exclusively

Every once in a while, Anno 1404 stops to work through Steam Proton and only works through Lutris with Ubisoft Connect. But then every other once in a while, it can't work through Lutris and only works with Steam Proton. I am glad I got it on Steam despite it being annoying how Steam opens *another* game launcher due to DRM reasons (and those being the reason I have to adjust my setup every so often)

What the hell 🥴

Edit: And yes, of course, if you launch it through Steam, it launches Ubisoft Connect as another layer, but if you launch it through Lutris through Ubisoft Connect, it launches another Steam launcher layer 🥴🥴🥴

@lexd0g@wetdry.world but viruses!! (meanwhile 'good' pirate sources being more trustable than the legit companies that install kernel level mal- anti-tamper software)

Kritik Pedas! :verified: 🏴‍☠️

@lexd0g@wetdry.world That's right, all modern games are sucks except casual/2D. i've stopped playing online games since month ago because size is too bigger and unoptimized for all devices..

Also, i prefer playing casual games than competitive games..

@lexd0g
Reminds me of a recent trio of Louis Rossmann vids, if capitalists' are intent on making paying the worse option we should, in the spirit of the free market, go elsewhere :blobfoxhappy:

@lexd0g to quote Gabe Newell once again: Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem

Kevin Karhan :verified:

@lexd0g Eeyupp...

Or as #LouisRossmann said: '#Piracy is completely justified, because paying customers get the worse experience!'

Awootism 🐺🔞

@lexd0g do what I do:
- Pirate the game
- if there's merch or something that goes directly to the developers then buy that

Woodswalked

@lexd0g
I pay for streaming services that I don’t access.
Access is easier through unofficial means.
Same reasons.

@lexd0g if paying is not owning, then pirating isn't stealing :3

Cal Alaera

@lexd0g This is remarkably similar to my experience of buying RDR2. Except I gave up and hit the refund button when I saw those damn captchas. I just can't do them.

Why publishers insist on treating their paying customers worse than people they perceive as "stealing", I'll never understand.

Exa :calim:

@lexd0g There are still DRM-free games on GOG. But major publishers abuse their position with DRM.

Dysax

@lexd0g what is the fascination with every AAA game coming with it's own launcher???

Chris Renfrow

@lexd0g the problem with the piracy experience is the potential for malware to be included in the binary. But I guess in many ways the official method requiring Internet access to transmit your activity as you play is a kind of malware itself. 🤷

sadmac356

@lexd0g me: lucks into a used physical copy of a game and is able to use 7zip to install it despite the steam code having already been used

ghostly nano :nanoBlobOwO:
@lexd0g you missed the part where you need to sign up for a new account on the store if you dont already have one, install their launcher, log in, then you probably have to make another fucking account on the games individual launcher also
