@Flipboard's ActivityPub push evolves the platform away from being an app-centric service to something almost akin to being on a higher plane.

Okay, admittedly that sounds prophetic and like its vaporware, but Flipboard has spent the past decade showing curation works, but now it's redefining that for a social world that really has seen massive upheaval. This ain't your 2000s social.

It presents a great opp for publisher's audience development teams too (cont'd).

For publishers, @Flipboard's ActivityPub deal could let them take published content, flip it into Magazines, and then have it be pushed to their fediverse-supported apps.

I'd hope that Flipboard would have flip comments be the social post and the article be embedded link. And it'd be great if there was some tie-in back to Flipboard's Magazine to encourage growth. I guess @Techmeme's tweets pre-Elon is a great example.

And since Flipboard is pro-publisher, traffic goes to the news sites.

Both @mike and the team at @Flipboard are smart but I hope they haven't underestimated the effort needed to manage moderation and doing community. 🤞

And looking at the work the company has done in the fediverse as a whole, it laid the foundation for this next big bet—less of a gamble and more pioneering. Flipboard becomes a first mover in defining content distribution in the decentralized world.

Mike sets the right expectations in his blog post: There will be problems and issues to sort out.
