@danluu I thought age was a protected class?

elliot :brennans:

@v @danluu i suspect his CV had his real date and LinkedIn was different for reasons.

@elliottucker @v @danluu Or they were unlucky enough to actually be born on that day.

You'd be amazed how often companies randomly break laws. It's a little like "freedom of expression" and "supreme court found dress codes unconstitutional" in the US, versus how schools often act anyway.

Manfred

@v @danluu in US labor law, you cannot discriminate against someone because of their age, but only if they are 40+ years old. Age discrimination is totally ok if they are under 40.

indrora, boot of journalism

@danluu I once lived in an Apartment 420. This caused so many systems to reject me, including the payment system for the apartment complex I lived in.

The absolute worst was any sort of banking institution or KYC restricted company. Insurance companies? No problem we don’t care if you live on mars. But fucking Fidelity Investments? I had to have someone *fucking video chat* me to prove that I lived at an apartment 420.

This was made worse by my use of a GVoice number as my typical phone number, which shows up as a voip number in a data center in Wherever the hell California.

@indrora Hey know your pain! My surname is Dude.

@danluu @dotstdy
Can't hire someone who has the same birthday as Hitler, it's bad luck

Richard Kogelnig

@Doomed_Daniel @danluu @dotstdy historically rejecting someone with this birthday has not gone well for the wider world

Andrew
@danluu texts like this leave me sorry for all the time I've spent reading it to the end — all those blah blah we're so sorry — just say why rejected and shut the fuck up
and re "AI" part: yeah that's a new bottom
Mikołaj Hołysz

@danluu IANAL and not from the US, but wouldn't this be a cut-and-dry discrimination case if true? This is in writing, for fuck's sake.

Jonathan Hendry

@miki @danluu

Age is protected, not month/day of birth, especially when it is assumed to be false

That said, who puts date of birth on a resume or LinkedIn?.

Steve Canon

@danluu @heathborders I mean, they actually sent a note and gave a reason, which puts them leaps ahead of most tech companies, in all seriousness.

@danluu are we doing the thing where we’re slapping the adjective “AI” on random things for laughs…?

@danluu extra #alt4you: the rejection letter is in a post by @/HappiestSadGirl_ saying “Got an Al rejection letter for...being born on the wrong date.”
