@Gargron I agree with you 100% I've tried to talk sense into acquaintances, but they're buying into the mass hysteria created by either ignorant fools or people who have something at stake.

I think this issue highlights the importance of science education.

I should state that I think that AI has tremendous negative externalities and society will not be able to react fast enough. And it will cause lots of societal pain. (Here I don’t even refer to existential threats) But you’re being naive when you disregard the immense power for AI to change the nature of work & education. It already is transforming those areas. AI doesn’t have to be better than the “best” worker/teacher. Just better than the average at a fraction of the time.

@ForeverExpat @Gargron absolutely, you're correct. I wasn't clear; my acquaintances' fear is more like the fear of skynet and robots killing us all.

However, I think your worries will just be a bump, like with all technological advances.

The root cause of social injustices has nothing to do with any particular technology IMO. Greed is a human flaw.
