@ifixcoinops So much this. Brother printers are so boring, they're "totally fine" and do just what they need to do, mostly reliably and mostly fuss free.

They're the definition of "an okay printer" and that's all 90% of people need and want from a printer.

@LightTheUnicorn @ifixcoinops Only issue I’ve had with mine was setting it up on a new router. Just pushed the WPS button when it said to, and off we go. My iPhone prints to it, my Linux box saw it, and my Windows machines likewise. It’s on when I need it and off when it don’t. It makes squeaky noises when it prints, but it still goes. It’s survived two moves and sitting in a storage unit for a year.

@V_Mags_Fox @LightTheUnicorn @ifixcoinops I had one where the print heads eventually got too screwed up to deal with a couple years back, possibly because I was using off-brand ink and only printing on rare occasions, and I remember it being fine as well. No slew of companion software and junk, none of this “WiFi only” of some cheap new printers, I just plugged in a USB cable and used the system dialogue and occasionally fed it a cheap cartridge.

I thought about replacing it with a laser printer from them, but for now I’ve been taking the approach that the best printer is someone’s else’s printer.

Specifically my employer’s.
