@ifixcoinops I wouldn't subscribe. Isn't a working implementation of IPP Everywhere an innovation? And they have a really good app to scan and print from the smartphone. It works so good that for some time I don't even have configured the printer on my PC but sent the documents to my smartphone and printed from there.

@cybso @ifixcoinops I fail to see why anyone would prefer to send documents to their phone and then print instead of just printing 😅 Ditto for scanning: why bother with a camera shot when the scanner is right there on the printer?

@aran @ifixcoinops I didn't realise at the time that Brother's IPP Everywhere works so good and I didn't want to bother with CUPS ;-)

The scan part of the Brother app actually uses the MFP, it's not a camera based document scanner.

@cybso @ifixcoinops In other words, the app saved you set-up time set up on a Mac? Because on Win and Linux I don't even need to set up drivers for my Brother printer, it just appears on the network and works...

@aran @ifixcoinops No, on Linux.

I don't let CUPS scan automatically for other printers because I would see dozens of printers in our office. And yes, when I finally decided to take the time and configure it this took only a few clicks, thanks to IPP Everywhere ;-)

Perfectly fair point 👍 Honestly, I let my Twitter instincts have the best of me. I assumed this was the usual contrarian post you get on the birdsite, instead you raise some a very interesting point. Not only Brother had remain the classic bedrock of reliability, they have built upon it when innovating, providing useful additions where we would expect enshittification (like in the app space)

Gotta. Love. Mastodon.
