As someone who has no idea about high-end audio equipment — do these kinds of microphones not work equally in all directions?

@grishka the vast majority of microphones that are used for live, studio and film sound are directional and thus have a wrong end.

your average large diaphragm condenser microphone (the type seen in the photo) has the logo and switches on one side of it (facing away from the camera in the photo) and that's the correct end.

you can also see that it says "MADE IN A..." near the bottom, which is another hint that this is the wrong end, because that kind of information is typically found on the back or bottom of appliances.
