I may have ordered a Pentax 67 camera yesterday, because apparently I’m not financially ruined enough so I need to get into medium format too. Comes without a lens though so I’ll still need to get one of those. Probably 105mm?

@gargron I’d say 80mm (afaik this translates roughly to 50mm in 35mm). Made a good starting point for me.

@kurth Here is a tool for translating the focal lengths between different formats. 105mm is the 50mm equivalent one.

@gargron ah, thanks. I am using 6x6 so the 80mm is slightly wideangle. yeah, 2¢ that it’s still a good starting point (for me) as i preferred shooting 'city' stuff.

@Gargron @kurth this is actually super nice, thanks for sharing

@Gargron ich hab irgendwo noch ne Canon A1 mit Motor und div. Objektiven. Wenn Du magst, Check ich mal, ob die noch funktioniert und würde sie dir schenken. Ist halt keine Mittelformat.

@Gargron

Even 75mm is nice, slightly wide angle, but it depends by the most of your subjects.

A tilt&shift lens would be a totally different planet… but I don't know if it's available.

@Gargron I had a Pentax 645 long ago, I expect you’ll love it.

@Gargron but you’ll no longer need a gym membership lifting that all the time, so maybe save a little money? Get the 35mm fisheye!

@Gargron at least in the USA 120 film prices didn't go crazy as much as 35mm. You can get a 5 pack of Kodak Gold for $45.

@Gargron well, I think that as the open source equivalent of Elno Mask, you deserve it!

@Gargron love medium format, it was the best to learn for me. During uni years I always had a Zeiss Icon (1950s) in my bag... no focus adjustment, no light meter, just lots of hyperfocal outdoors or whatever you can guess indoors!
Great for developing an eye for light and distance (and also to waste a lot of film trying 😬)

@Gargron Congratulations! That’s been my dream camera for decades. I wish you many years of happy shooting!

@Gargron
Hey Eugen,
i can recommend three lenses:
the 45mm
the 90mm
the 135mm
I conducted a 2-years survey in Micronesia, you can see these photos in my Micronesia folder at my website. All the portraits were taken with th 90mm. Superb lens!

@Gargron Well, depends on what you want to shoot. Longer is better for portraits, shorter (105mm) better for stuff like street photography (though idk how much of that you can do when lug a medium format around lol). Have fun!

@Gargron Photography is an addictive hobby, but it's incredibly fun. Once you start, you never look at the world the same way again. Looking forward to seeing your photos posted on Mastodon!

@Gargron Wikipedia has a great article about it, so I now know so much more about it than before. Nice purchase.
