@geekysteven That’s just a Dreamworks Animation character, right?

No. The Quokka is a type of micro kangaroo that lives exclusively on the island of Rottnest, 20km off the coast of Perth Australia.

This photo would have been taken in the main settlement area.

The fence in the background has the standard Rottnest island colour scheme.

@geekysteven All the people you know, unless you know Pedro Pascal. Exhibit A attached for your consideration.

I liked it when his tribe destroyed the Imperial AT-ST Walker by swinging two logs into it from the trees.

@geekysteven oh my! I didn’t even know this creature existed and I already agree with your strategy.

@geekysteven this is the originallynocturnal species which has evolved to stay up during the day to, apparently, humour humankind and their penchant for selfies.

seriously.

@kshah @geekysteven can confirm! Was over at Rottnest recently and the little devils alternated sneaking into the bakery with taking naps in odd corners because they’re really meant to be asleep (the one in the back with its head down is asleep)

kshah

@geekysteven put this and the eucalyptus-munching marsupial together and you can have a refreshing Quokka Koala!

@geekysteven sounds good how can one replace one’s boss with quokkas πŸ€”πŸ€” asking for a friend. I know quokkas are known for their managerial skills

@geekysteven What a beautiful little critter. Absolutely adorable. I've never even heard of this creation. Thank you for sharing.

Writing Slowly

@geekysteven I appreciate the alt text; it's notoriously hard to tell when a quokka that *looks like it's smiling* actually *is* smiling

geekysteven

@writingslowly for all I know, it could be like dolphins where they just look like that, but plot our downfall on the inside

@geekysteven

Well can I still keep the good people, and do I get more than one quokka for all the clangers?

Ipso Facto

@geekysteven I see your quokka and raise you one tree kangaroo.

Qole

@geekysteven The smile is a lot less toothy than a Quoll.

@geekysteven Had to look that one up. Australian marsupial, somewhere between a kangaroo and a possum. Definitely has a possum tail, but much cuter face.

@geekysteven What we have down here are Hyraxes, who always look like they are judging your life choices.

Christiane

@geekysteven is there a "Quokka every hour" bot ?

Martin Rost

@geekysteven

Sorry ... but the question arises all the more urgently as to whether this is just a clever evolutionary strategy of a quokka simulating friendliness and whether it will attack the fascinated person with a death bite in the next moment?
