Looking to replace our boat's saloon cushions. Been adding up the costs. DIY'ing it is gonna be costly, but can't imagine what it'd cost if I asked an upholsterer.

I know where to get the foam, still unsure on fabric.

Looking at fabric samples online reminds me of that bit in Lost in Translation when his wife sends him different carpet samples by mail to choose from, and that they ALL LOOK THE SAME.

Fabric names are freakin hilarious. 'Teddy bear truffle', 'lavish storm'....'ottawa sand'.

@neauoire @rek

Ask for free samples until you have fabric enough… then make a wonderful patchwork.

I made a 6 meters walkway using tile samples 😄

My walkway, made with tile samples

@rek I'm visiting my folks right now and they've reupholstered a few things. I can ask them for recommendations or tips if you'd like. But yeah. The fabric names are wild!

@cathos Sure~ I've got a few good references but could always use more.

@rek we are also looking to redo interior cushions and it's going to cost close to 1k nzd to do it ourselves, just for materials.

R E K

@nomand Yea :/... it's nuts eh? So you're gonna redo them all in one go? By that i mean saloon, all the berths, etc.

nomand

@rek we already did our vberth, had that custom made from natural latex instead of foam. much more mold resistant and comfortable to sleep on. that was very expensive because of materials and geometry.
for saloon we are diying foam and covers with our onboard sewing machine. fabric is not too expensive, but foam is crazy!

@rek 😆 Because when I think of sand, the first place that comes to mind is Ottawa

@rek going in person to some kind of fabric/sewing/etc shop is something i'd recommend highly if you can. there are discount bulk/factory reject fabric places that are generally the best deal in that space if you can find one local; online definitely feels like a crapshoot in terms of like

> surprise! you hate some aspect of the feel or appearance of the fabric you just bought 20 meters of

but i appreciate that may be difficult from pino~

@rek This summer my partner was rolling her eyes at the ridiculous shades of paint (the top-one) and in response, spoofed-up the lower.
