The GOP has introduced a bill to EXPEL Palestinians from the United States. I cannot read such things without remembering what happened to my own family after Pearl Harbor. After we and 120,000 other Japanese Americans were incarcerated in prison camps for years, without charge or trial, my own mother was very nearly expelled to Japan because of racial prejudice and hatred. Only the brave actions of a civil rights attorney saved her from being sent away. #NeverAgain

@NovemberMan I read in this morningโ€™s Letters by Heather Cox Richardson, Representative Ryan Zinke (R-MT) intordced the bill.

โ€œ Today, Representative Ryan Zinke (R-MT), who was former president Trumpโ€™s Interior Secretary until he left under accusations of misconduct, introduced a bill to ban Palestinians from the United States and to revoke any visas issued to Palestinians since October 1 of this year. Although the U.S. has resettled only about 2,000 Palestinians in the last 20 years, ten other far-right members of the House signed onto Zinkeโ€™s bill, which draws no distinction between Hamas and Palestinian civilians.โ€

@annietime You've gotta be quite the piece of work if you leave a position under accusations of misconduct... during the TRUMP ADMINISTRATION.

"If Palestinians aren't for Hamas, why aren't they disavowing them and leaving the area? Also, we're banning Palestinians who have disavowed Hamas and left the area."

@BaronVonScrub @annietime @NovemberMan I donโ€™t believe Hamas is allowing them to leave the area.

@pomegranate_stew @NovemberMan @georgetakei Heโ€™s the clown who dressed up in western cosplay and rode a goddamned horse to his first day on the job as Secretary of the Interior. He had his own flag raised whenever he was in the building. Palestinian passports do not exist. Palestinians are a stateless people under an illegal brutal occupation in which they have no rights.

Howard Wilson II

@gavinisdie @georgetakei I'm not sure where you've been the last few years, but the GOP really isn't concerned about the law. And even if they were called out for it, they'd just challenge the law. Seriously. Their messiah is trying to make the argument that a President does not have to support the Constitution, because the oath only says preserve, protect, and defend. Their response? "Hmmmm, you make a valid point, Orange Jesus!".

LeaBug

@georgetakei When are we going to introduce a bill to expel January 6th participants from the country? Asking for America.

MoiraEve

@LeaBug We are investigating and convicting those we have identified who participated in #Jan6. Are you saying to expel after theyโ€™ve served their sentence?

LeaBug

@MoiraEve I'm saying anyone convicted of sedition should be expelled. In addition to their sentence. If you attack our government, you should not ever see the sun rise in America again.

Rivetgeek

@LeaBug @MoiraEve I think they should be expelled into the sun, personally.

This Old Hiker

@georgetakei @LeaBug What other country would want to admit our January 6th seditionists? Donโ€™t think that even Putin would have them.

@LeaBug @georgetakei It's high time that the US used our various out-of-the-way locations for political exiles.

Trump and his co-conspirators should be exiled to Midway Island.

WAY back in 1999 I was in the hospital and shared a room with a lovely, 73 year old Japanese-American woman. We became friends. She shared all the horrible stories of only being able to take what they could carry from their home and then taken to a "camp" for years.

I don't understand this racism and bigotry

"It's odd the way that societies change. Time and time again historians and sociologists are taken aback in wonder and confusion at the sudden, dramatic, and often dangerous transformations of a peopleโ€™s basic nature and identity. When this occurs in individuals we call it insanity, and often look for psychological or biological illness to explain the anomaly. When it occurs in societies we call it inhumanity, and have yet to address its root cause.

There are of course the classic and well known transformations of good societies into those which embrace darkness, such as the Germans adopting the ideals of the madman Hitler, or the Italians adopting his lesser counterpart Mussolini. But there are unfortunately many lesser discussed and equally tragic examples of a societies transgressions against its own mores. From the ancient Greeks and Romans, to the modern day Bosnians and Sudanese, societies have shown a great propensity for suddenly abandoning their most cherished beliefs and morals, and in their stead, learning to kill.

To be sure, these transformations do not occur overnight, but are instead attended by a slow, steady, but ever increasing drumbeat of misinformation, dehumanization, beratement, and ultimate hysteria directed towards any perceived enemy. The voices of reason and dissent are routinely suppressed and discredited, the rule of law abandoned, and any possible sense of guilt muted by vague and overt appeals to absolute nationalism.

And so we find America today.

In the midst of an election where the abandonment of our most basic precepts of humanity have nationally and internationally been condemned and repudiated, we dare not mention them. For all our candidates have repeatedly and enthusiastically voted for their abolition.

Learning to kill.

It's not as difficult as we thought."

Canada has a rising tide of reactionary asshole politicians. GERMANY, of all countries!, has a rising tide of populist fascists growing in power. @zdl @georgetakei I'm afraid you're right on that. People failed to learn the lessons of the not even far off past and fascism is growing more and more dangerous.
