Dev & I spent an hour going through strings of christmas lights trying to find out why half of the string wasn't lit. Checked fuse, was good.

Evidently, corrosion was the culprit. Had to sacrifice a string and took 6 bulbs from it so the other one would work. The metal connections in the dead ones had all turned to dust. Ah, boatssss, salt everywhereeee 😑 ...

Now we're down one string of lights, but at least Pino is well-lit and looking awesome ^____^

@rek corrosion kills my electronics just living in the Sydney climate. I’ve been looking into these special bags and containers that are meant to control humidity for longer term storage. though if you can get your hands on satchels of silica gel putting a few of them in a zip lock bag with your electronics may do the trick

@zens We do that already for our electronics (whatever isnt marine-graded).
I stored the lights in a dry locker, guess it wasn't enough (they weren't boxed or bagged or anything, I could have been more careful).
But also just them sitting on deck for a few months each year is already pretty damaging :/.

@rek ah yes even best efforts aren’t enough sometimes :/

@rek it's weird that salt and water preserves food but destroy all the rest :-)

@kototama plays well with wood too, but not with metals :<
