Sounds good, but the only Steam Family Sharing update I want to see is:

- No longer locking the ENTIRE library if a family member is playing a completely different game to what you want to play

That has always pissed me off about it.

@gamingonlinux or at least not locking it if I'm playing a free game

Deuchnord

@gamingonlinux even more frustrating when you are not in a Family Sharing but want to start a game on your Deck while another one is still running on your PC.

Joshua Barretto

@gamingonlinux Can you imagine if this happened in a physical medium? "Sorry mate, you can't play Animal Crossing on your Nintendo DS, your sister is playing Mario Kart on her DS"

Malfatan

@jsbarretto @gamingonlinux But with a physical medium you can't instantly share your game with your sister that lives in a different city/country.

Joshua Barretto

@malfatan @gamingonlinux I don't really see why that's a distinction that matters

Malfatan

@jsbarretto If the argument is that family sharing should be like it is with physical games, then it could also be argued that they should remove the features that you don't have with physical. Otherwise, why is your distinction relevant and mine isn't?

Joshua Barretto

@malfatan Because user freedom is good, and I want more of it.

Malfatan

@jsbarretto Ok, but that doesn't make my distinction matter less than yours.

@gamingonlinux or even, why can't i play a game on my steam deck and a game on my computer at the same time ? I can play two games on the same computer if i want, but i can't on two different hardware ?

let me download a flight simulator update on the desktop without looking me out of the steam deck ffs

doragasu

@gamingonlinux Agree, but I don't think we will see that, there are a lot of actors that event want the family share function to completely disappear...

ampersandrew

@gamingonlinux I don't think this is going to change, and I'm guessing it's the best way for them to assure partners that the feature won't lead to a loss in sales.

HeroOfDermwood

@gamingonlinux One of the reasons why I have bought multiple games from GOG that I own on Steam. So my kids can play while I play. But I also don't bother with family sharing. It is pointless.

Ultrasquid

@gamingonlinux all I want is the ability to transfer games from my dad's account to my own. Even Nintendo lets you do this.

Luna :blobcatnauseated:โ€‹

@gamingonlinux wait whats going on with family sharing can you elaborate??

(totally not using 35 alts and sharing from them)

The Penguin of Evil

@gamingonlinux Lot of folks just set up a new steam account for each game they buy that might want to be shared in the house. Steam has rather less customers than accounts.

@gamingonlinux
When family sharing was first introduced this used to be the case, it would only ever lock out the individual game being played, the problem was people abused the system as just a way of making a super-library with friends. It really was a perfect example of a few people ruining a great thing for everyone else. So unfortunately, it's not getting changed.

jakob42

@gamingonlinux sadly not gonna happen. Had to buy enough games twice for steam not to miss out on those profits ๐Ÿ˜”

Michael

@gamingonlinux I found that if someone is playing a game already with my shared steam library, I can play a game without booting them out
