@Gargron I used German trains years ago, and they were generally more punctual than Italian ones. Discovering, years later, that Italian trains have improved and German ones have worsened shocked me. I don't know which of the two surprises me more 😄 @Gargron Jep, If I need to change trains I now go by default for an hour connecting time… 😳 Which mostly works but still not always. Kapitalismus Die Deutsche Bahn soll nicht umweltfreundlich & zuverlässig Personen & Waren befördern, sondern Profit abwerfen. Sie arbeitet mit der Autolobby zusammen. @Gargron you should try Transport for Wales trains! It would certainly make you appreciate what you’ve got! @Gargron whenever I take an ICE I play a game I like to call "so what's it going to be this time?" Usually it's something small, like seat reservations not being properly displayed, but many times it's long delays or last minute track changes that can really mess up your plans. Don't get me wrong, taking the train is one of my favourite ways to travel, but this country really needs to show our tracks some love. @Gargron “reliable in nothing but its own unreliability” deserves a word of its own! I’m sure that the German collective genius of word concatenation has already come up with one. @Gargron my experience is that the 1st class wagons need to be moved to the front i dont know why for more expensive seats you have to walk through 8 wagons while the train is moving if you travel with bikes which are in the first wagon for ICE not well thought out, alternatively adding a bicycle wagon for first class since there are never enough bicycle spots @Gargron wow. I had the pleasure to ride DB train last month and in comparison to Polish trains it was just out of this world. @Gargron It pains me so much to hear Germans saying this now! In the 80s and 90s it was SO GREAT. @Gargron When I use DB, I just take the train 1-2 hours earlier than the one that's supposed to be the right one according to schedule. Of course, the timing depends on how far I'm going, but planning my trips this way didn't cause problems. I have to add, it has happened already that my train arrived on time according to their schedule. When that happens, it's kind of a bummer, because I have a lot of time out there not being able to do anything; but this happens rarely, I can live with it. @Gargron Remember when they added mockery into the mix? @Gargron Hah, try any Swedish train company, especially SJ. In the summer, the tracks get too hot and need maintenance work. In the winter, snow gets in the way. No matter the season, there are significant delays on a regular basis. Sometimes passengers get stranded for hours in the middle of nowhere and have to wait for things to resume. Usually they get fed free food to compensate for the inconvenience, but I bet it’s not fun 😅 @Gargron Europeans moaning about public transport have never travelled by rail in the north of England 😂😭 @Gargron You know real pain then. As many as 26% of their trains regularly cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. |
@Gargron So true. https://mastodon.social/@paulrobertlloyd/111323747442655752
