@FediFollows I had some issues following a PeerTuber because it wasn't doing what I expected it to. That seems like something worth addressing?

@thegiddystitcher https://chitter.xyz/@janbeta@makertube.net (the channel) is shown to have 4 posts, but no posts are shown. https://chitter.xyz/@jan_beta@makertube.net (the account/user) is shown to have 4 posts, and the posts are shown. @ruawhitepaw His channel is blank when viewed from sunny.garden too, but the account only has one video showing. So yeah, looks like it's just the usual federation thing. For example my channel at @thegiddystitcher@makertube.net shows up with lots of videos when viewed from sunny.garden, but if nobody on your server follows it it'll be empty from your pov. @thegiddystitcher I'm following both profiles though, and have been for a few days. So they should both be equally federated right? @ruawhitepaw Yep! So when a new video drops (last one looks like it was 6 days ago) you should see it in the channel profile too. If new videos don't show up then there really is something wrong, but atm it looks like it might just be the usual confusing federation rules đ @thegiddystitcher@sunny.garden @ruawhitepaw @thegiddystitcher@makertube.net @MossyQuartz If you have any trouble figuring it out do let me know! PeerTube stuff is a bit confusing even by usual Fediverse standards đ Thanks and I think it'll be interesting to look around in PeerTube. I made a couple of bookmarks, just to be sure to again find where I wandered into, and I found a link to unofficial guidance at đ @ruawhitepaw @thegiddystitcher Hey Rua! Do you disable boots from accounts when you follow? Because I do it always, and noticed that the PeerTube user posts the actual videos on Mastodon from all their channels, but the channel only boosts the videos of that particular channel. If you disable boosts from the channel you follow youâll see no videos from it. So, follow the user account or allow the boosts from the specific channel. I hope that solves your problem. @dmian @ruawhitepaw Ooh good point I forgot disabling boosts is even a thing! @thegiddystitcher @ruawhitepaw Yes. I guess itâs done to generate less traffic. So the main user posts everything and the individual channels boost the appropriate posts. I scratched my head for days until I followed a channel, saw it had videos, but those disappeared when I disabled boosts. I donât like boosts, and normally disable them for all accounts I follow. @ruawhitepaw @FediFollows What you mention about following, I have to agree. If you've not done so, either post an issue on the git repository (I think they're on github), or their forum. I'd call that a bug (as a person running a PeerTube instance). I'm *not* certain if it's a version issue, so the forum may be more appropriate. @ruawhitepaw @FediFollows Same. Many accounts listed have no videos. For one creator I tried the [mastodon] web interface, saw a notice about posts on a âprevious accountâ & that led to an actual channel account with videosâwhich I had to copy/paste into search to be able to follow. Maybe creator bios need to include links to their channel accounts so people can follow. But thatâs a kludge. Their channels should be automatically findable, yes? |
@ruawhitepaw Fwiw this doesn't seem to be a universal thing, I have channels showing up in my mastodon feed no problem.
Is it possible the channel you were looking at just isn't federated with your server yet? In which case it would appear blank until someone subscribes and a new video is posted.
