Walking around without situational awareness is a recipe for a mugging, SA, etc let alone vehicle collisions. One of the first things taught in the motorcycle safety course was "Do you want to be right or to you want to survive? Plenty of motorcyclists could legitimately have 'they had the right of way' as an epitaph." 3 comments
It is entirely possible that I'm mistaken. I gave up my last car back in May just prior to the lease expiring. I had it 4 years and only had 5k kms on it. I'm in a central location and walk almost everywhere I need to go. My motorcycle is used only to get out of the city on weekends. Vehicle traffic is not my biggest safety concern. I've had tweekers rush me a couple of times just in this past year, and I look like an extra from Sons of Anarchy. @Sir_Osis_of_Liver that sounds quite different from my city. My neighbourhood is known for poverty and substance use, but vehicular traffic is the greatest threat to my safety and it’s not close. |

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver @mbonsma you seem to be confusing ”making aspirational statements on the Internet” with “the way people actually behave in real life situations”. I walk and cycle very defensively. But I firmly believe that I should not *have to*, which I think is what Madeleine was trying to get at as well.
