Martyn Turner in the Irish Times

Cartoon by Martyn Turner, Irish Times, portraying 4 bombs being launched against Gaza, with a person fleeing while everything is already destroyed and blowing black smoke. One of the falling bombs has writing on it, stating "Please ignore if you are not a member of Hamas" while on the left of the cartoon there's a speech bubble coming from an unseen person saying "An atrocity for an atrocity... A war crime for a war crime..."

@Voline After what happened in Israel. What is the country going to do? Not respond. Take the second most deadly attack on Jews since WWII on the chin? Come on!

HeroOfDermwood

@pch @Voline For starters, they can choose to not collectively punish Palestinians, and choose to not deliberately target civilians. They could also choose to end the apartheid of the Palestinian people.

Seth 🎙️:jawn_sg:

@HeroOfDermwood @Voline I agree to ending the Apartheid. But Hamas needs to pay.

HeroOfDermwood

@pch @Voline How does deliberately targeting civilians punish Hamas?

Swiss

@pch @HeroOfDermwood @Voline

Hamas need to go and be held accountable.

That said, the idf is known to try and evacuate buildings and inform people they are being used as human shields.

So many Palestinians have fallen for the extremist propaganda that they want their families to die.

Fixing Gaza and removing the extremism of Hamas? It’s a Herculean task.

HeroOfDermwood

@switzere @pch @Voline Israel telling civilians to evacuate targeted areas is like ED-209 from Robocop telling people they have 10 seconds to comply.

Seth 🎙️:jawn_sg:

@HeroOfDermwood @switzere @Voline It's an ugly situation on all sides. A true clusterfuck

Swiss

@HeroOfDermwood @pch @Voline

Israeli intellgence services will phone people giving them a warning.

Hamas uses people as human shields.

There’s not much if the civilians are Hamas supporters with a suicide wish.

Bombing and marching into Gaza is militarily dumb. But to argue they don’t care about Palestinians? I’d say they care more than their own Hamas government.

pacanukeha❎

@switzere a dozen/hundred/thousand phone calls does not, strangely, forgive IDF for the destruction of civilian infrastructure.
Under what circumstances has Hamas felt the need for a distributed and embedded org? Why do Gazans feel inclined to vote for an org that wants to fight back against Israel? This conflict did not start with the disgusting and reprehensible murder of a thousand innocents on October 7 and Collective Guilt is not a valid defense against war crimes.

Swiss

@pacanukeha “why do gazans feel inclined to vote for an org that wants to fight back”

Why do they support a government that would rather build rockets than water. That would rather massacre their own families instead of building power generation. Hamas has been a shitty fascist government in Gaza and it still has widespread support.

Hamas wants to kill every Jew in Israel.

I do not understand why so many who are critical of Israelis policies give a fascist nazi government a pass.

pacanukeha❎

@pch and do all Gazans need to pay with them? The IDF has warned 1.1 million people with nowhere to go to evacuate.

Steve

@pch @Voline not bomb 2 million civilians into oblivion

DELETED

@Voline using an antijudaist trope from Christianity that misunderstood the rule due to missing context.

Awful. Really, as a cartoonist did they not think for a few minutes or are they just letting a subconscious need to stick it to the Jews run freely? Two bad choices.

The trope is the „an eye for an eye“ which was historically meant as a maximum limit, not a minimum limit. A progressive rule to avoid endless blood feuds. Which other people still had in the 20th century.

DELETED

@Voline it is really remarkable that while the left has learned so much about racism in the last few decades, it is absolutely clueless about antijudaism and antisemitism (with the exception of the Antideutsche, they have really worked on the topic). You are all running around using the most awful tropes, equivalent in easyness to avoid to blackface, N-word and jokes about Chechen and watermelon.

I mean „the bloodthirsty Jew“? How can you share that and not recognise it?

@Voline this is really antisemitism 101, nobody is talking about stuff one needs a university degree for. And that more complex stuff is done very often enough too.

The international left is still so bafflingly antisemitic, it is as if Entebbe never happened in your world.

Here, read the Wikipedia article about the radical left sorting the passengers into Jews (who will die) and non-Jews (who will live) just like at the ramp.
