Also, does anyone know how or why the IKEA shark became a trans icon? My wife asked and I was like....I have no idea. But most of the other online trans girls have one?

@coleens_ @JoscelynTransient I read something about it once, but ADHD brain plus lack of sleep... The funny thing is that I got a BLAHAJ before I knew our friend was a trans icon. @JoscelynTransient I should probably share this on the Fedi lol https://www.newsweek.com/how-ikea-shark-became-trans-icon-1753400 @JoscelynTransient I think it's literally just because our soft friends are blue, white, and pink. This is it, as far as I know. That, and Blahaj is just very very good for cuddling when the world gets to be a bit too much. @quietbrooke @faaln @JoscelynTransient Also, Smolhaj can be rolled up onto a canvas bag or suitably large purse for bringing into work if you need to give the shork fren a squeeze. @JoscelynTransient I bought my son one before it was a trans icon - in 2017 I think. He still has it and absolutely loves it! @JoscelynTransient The story I read was that in one ad there was one in the bed, in a kids bedroom, with a trans flag in the background. From there it started as a meme, and when IKEA doubled down and celebrated equal marriage in Sweden by having ads with beds with each possible pride flag, plushies, and a message with something like "one bed for each kind of couple" it skyrocketed @aenea @JoscelynTransient this year at twin cities pride the official IKEA booth was handing out Blahaj pride merchandise. They've definitely embraced it. |
@JoscelynTransient I wanna know this too
