@batalanto @adam @simon supporting.openstreetmap.org/a has our Euro bank account (in Ireland) and our bitcoin. If cash or cheque is the only option, I can send you my address in NYC. Yes, we really need the money.

@grischard I was going to DM you to ask for an address. The problem is that’s extremely insecure. Not just privacy, but a MitM would love to swap the address you tell people with their own address.

So mailing addresses should really be published. If OSM staff do not want to expose their personal addresses, one option is to publish “poste restante” addresses, which is the address of the nearest post office that accepts “poste restante” mail (not all do). I think in the US the post offices will hold mail for up to 14 days. Not sure if that’s the same limit around the world. So someone would have to send a msg to tell you that they sent something so you know to go to the post office (with ID) and check for an arrival. Yeah it’s cumbersome but OSM should offering as many options as possible under the circumstances of mainstream options being lousy. It would be useful if OSM staff in the UK, US, Europe, etc, would volunteer to pick up poste restante mail. Then you could give a variety of addresses so donors could pick the closest.

It’s good that the website warns people that crypto is converted into fiat money, so donors know there’s some lossy overhead if they choose that method.

@batalanto @adam @simon the constraint for all methods is volunteer time. We have no love for the payment methods we use; we're grateful that they integrate relatively easily with civicrm.

@grischard I know nothing about GNU Taler but superficially that looks like it could be an ethical Paypal alternative to check out.

@grischard I just noticed you published a UK address at “St John’s Innovation Centre”. Can you receive cash at that address?

Guillaume Rischard

@batalanto not really, and not sure how they'd process it (would they scan it like they do with letters? 😀 )

@batalanto I see no civicrm integration unfortunately. So you're talking not fun custom php code, instead of slightly less painful financial reporting (i.e. visually show where the money goes), which would probably drive more donations...
