There's a lot going around right now with white queer people countering criticism of racist behaviour by calling the criticism "anti-queer".
Here's one reason why this doesn't hold up:
1. All white people are racist by default, yes including the queer ones, and if you have an issue with that statement, go google it and educate yourself. Then return here.
2. The Fediverse is predominantly white. (This is obvious to see)
3. The Fediverse has, compared to the general population, a much higher percentage of queer people. (That's great, good for us. Yay!) And we often are the ones running instances and moderating them, this receiving more scrutiny.
Those things together mean, simply through statistics, that a lot of the callouts of racist behaviour are going to be towards white queer people as well. Because we are more strongly represented here than many other spaces, our queerness does not prevent us from doing racist shit and it doesn't exempt us from getting that called out.
This is not an anti-queer conspiracy. It's just boring old whiteness receiving the deserved response and even more boring statistics with the Fediverse being largely run by queer nerds (of which again most are white and have learning to do, including myself).
None of this is an excuse to hide behind your queerness or even weaponising it when confronted with your own racism. I know that confrontation is uncomfortable and can really scratch your self-image as "one of the good ones". But it's necessary.
